Interview With Fashion Stylist Paola Farina

Hi There..... Would you like to know more about styling? Can I persuade you to read a fashion stylist interview?

If yes, perfect. If not, such a shame. You never know what you’ll be missing if you don’t read on, so perhaps you should? 😳

Yesterday I was at my grandniece’s first birthday celebration, so I didn’t have time to write a blog post. You won’t be so cruel to forbid me from partying. 😜

I know it wasn’t a last-minute party. I could have foreseen this, and written the blog post in advance, so all I needed to do was hit the publish (panic) button. 😎

I am so sorry, but I just didn’t feel the need to write and thought you wouldn’t mind the wait. As Benjamin Franklin said; “He that can have patience can have what he will.” 😉

I am uncertain you can have what you want after the wait. I waited and waited, but my brain just didn’t comply. All I did was stare at a blank page, thinking, what on earth am I going to write this time? 😧

What I am certain of is that you can get the fashion stylist interview I planned. It figures, some people always get what they want. It’s just not fair. 😭😂

What are your name, function, and the company you work for?

Paola, stylist, I run my company, Paola Farina Styling, focused on personal, commercial, and event styling

How old are you?

45

What kind of work do you do, or what are you studying to be?

I deal with styling, in particular. I work with individuals and emerging artists and brands to create their personal image. At the University of Milan, I graduated in Communication Sciences.

I have a Master's degree in Luxury Goods from the Polytechnic, and I attended several professional styling courses in Milan, New York, and London.

What made you decide to become a Fashion Stylist?

Fashion has always been part of my life since I was a child. I enjoyed playing with the “Fashion Wheel”, a game that allowed you to create the strangest looks.

Growing up, I supported my passion, despite my parents agreed little. Let's say I can't imagine doing something different. For a few years, I have also been involved with communication, for Newscorp and Elsevier, but the emotions of the photographic sets, the red carpet, and the fashion shows are difficult to find elsewhere.

Is fashion important to you? Why?

As I told you, fashion has always been part of my life. I was born in a small town near Milan, the Italian capital of fashion and design. It could not be otherwise. I believe that sparkling and shimmer have always attracted me, in the world of fashion it is all magical, all beautiful, it is a world where nothing seems to go badly.

What are your successes and how did you achieve them?

I never measured my successes based on what I earned, but from the satisfaction that it gave me with a certain type of project, and from the value, in terms of beauty, which I created with that project.

I never make comparisons with other professionals. It is wrong and often only creates stress. I focus on my goals and try to achieve them.

What’s something you might want to do in the future?

I would like to dress Olena Zelenska. Sometimes, I fantasize also, to take a year off to travel around the world.

Is the name of the Brand important to you when you buy clothing?

It depends, I try to buy what I like and reflects my personality, and not what is fashionable. Sometimes the two things coincide.

Describe your personal style of clothing?

Natural, creative, and dramatic.

How did you find your personal style? Do you have a signature look?

I have developed it over the years. Today, it is easier just to ask for a fashion stylist’s help or take one of the many quizzes that are online. I go for comfy-luxury styling when I work, we could call it “athleisure”.

At night, I prefer to exaggerate with heels, colors, and accessories. In work meetings, I add a creative and personal touch to classic garments such as a blazer and a pair of tailored pants.

In what way do you influence other people’s clothing style?

I don't like to influence, let's say that I try to recommend people to follow what is their authentic style, but for fear or personal reasons they have abandoned it.

What are in your eyes the best trends at the moment?

Colors, volumes, and leather. I like the way fashion reinterprets the great classics of the past. Like, for example, the punk version of Holly Golightly (Breakfast at Tiffany) staged by Givenchy.

What are in your eyes the worst trends at the moment?

I have always hated clothes and accessories that are too romantic and I can't stand velvet. So, I would say these two. I love comfortable volumes, but I find Balenciaga's exasperation out of tune.

What kind of fashion advice would you give us?

Try to understand who you are, free from conditioning, dressing up will be easier and more fun.

Who is your style icon and why?

I have a long list; I like Audrey Hepburn, so effortlessly chic, I love Charlize Theron, so glamourous, and Gwyneth Paltrow, so elegant. Kate's (Moss) styling is so cool, I love it.

I grew up in the era of supermodels. I loved them all, but my favorite was Kristen McMenamy for her ability to interpret and make the clothes she wore alive.

Is there something else you would like to share with us?

Visit an exhibition, go to the cinema, take a walk, and dedicate yourself to a sport, pets, and friends. Life is too short to waste it behind the screen of a smartphone.

Thank you, Paola, for answering my questions. Couldn't agree more with your last answer. Corona has taught us we shouldn't take life for granted. 😍

What are this season's must haves?

Hi There.....Do you like to dress casual?

I do..... I am a real jeans lover..... And at the moment I most prefer the more skinny type of jeans..... One that has elastic in it and fits perfectly around your legs 😃

You know when I grew up jeans weren't elastic at all..... They were stiff from top to bottom as far as I recall..... I remember going to the store and you had to hold your tummy in so hard till there was no air left in your body..... Well, at least it felt like that..... Just to get into that special pair of jeans..... I can guarantee you that it was a lot of hard work 😅 😁

Did you know that jeans weren't a fashion item at all in the early beginnings..... They were mostly worn by men as working clothes..... According to Wikipedia, they were used by sailors because they needed a fabric that could be worn wet or dry..... I bet those men would laugh their ... of if they would see us, women, in them now 😂

I just love looking up a little bit of history..... Both my sisters would laugh pretty hard if they would hear me say this..... They know that I hated it as a subject in class when I was young..... You see it's never too late to change 🤣 😂

What am I rattling away about again..... Haha, that's me I suppose..... You have to do what you are good at 😋

I made another fashion set for you with items in it that I actually would like to wear myself..... So that's one like to start 😁
