Interview With Fashion Designer Katya Komarova

Hi there, lovely readers! What would you ask a fashion designer if you had her in front of you? What makes a bag designer rethink the handbag as we know it?

Picture provided by Katya Komarova

Before we jump into the interview, let me take you back about twenty years. πŸ™‚✨πŸŽ„

Picture this: I’m Christmas‑shopping, arms full of potential gifts, humming along to whatever festive tune the store was torturing us with. πŸ˜…πŸ›️🎢

I get to the counter, open my handbag… and voilΓ  — my wallet has vanished. 😳πŸͺ„πŸ’Έ

Oh, what a delightful moment. Truly magical. Standing at the register with gifts I can’t pay for, smiling while internally screaming. πŸ™ƒπŸŽπŸ”₯

…Yes? No, obviously not delightful at all. πŸ˜πŸš«πŸŽ„

Back then I paid almost everything in cash, so those gifts transformed from “joyful holiday surprises” into “well, this is awkward.” πŸ˜¬πŸ’ΆπŸŽ

Fast‑forward to today: you can tap your card everywhere, even to buy one single gingerbread cookie, but try touching my handbag now and I’ll spin around faster than a caffeinated elf. πŸ˜πŸ’³πŸ§‍♂️

Once you’ve had a disappearing‑wallet moment, you develop a lifelong, theatrical handbag paranoia. πŸ˜–πŸ‘œπŸŽ

Maybe that’s why I’m so intrigued by people who rethink the things we carry every day — and today’s guest is definitely one of them. πŸ™‚πŸ§©✨

Nah, I won’t spill any of the tea just yet. That would be a waste of a great cup of tea. πŸ˜ŒπŸ΅πŸ˜‰

Her story, her vision, and her approach… you will find out in the following interview. Let’s dive in. πŸ˜„πŸ“–πŸŒŸ

What is your name, function and the company you work for?

My name is Katya Komarova, I’m the founder and the creative director of my namesake brand Katya Komarova

How old are you?

41

What kind of work do you do, or what are you studying to be?

I wear many hats in my business. I design, I model for our social media content, I look after our business development and oversee all the strategic moves.

What made you decide to become a Fashion Designer? Tell me about your journey.

I spent over a decade in the fashion industry as a model. It felt like a reasonable transition. But it still happened accidentally. While on a holiday in Thailand, I met a local artisan who taught me how to work with leather. I then refined my skills in Italy, Florence and launched my brand.

Is fashion important to you? Why?

It is. It has been such a big part of my life. I just love this industry. I am very creative and fashion gives me that platform to express myself.

What are your successes, and how did you achieve them?

The biggest success is the love from the customers from around the world. And, I guess, we achieved it by creating a good product and providing good service. Some of other highlights in my career include the awards and mentions in magazines like Vogue, ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar and other massive outlets.

What’s something you might want to do in the future?

I dream of going back to my modelling career. I miss the podium and hope to do it all over again one day.

Is the name of the Brand important to you when you buy clothing or jewelry?

Yes and no. There are some designers that I admire, like Miuccia Prada and it’s always a very special treat when I buy something from Prada or Miu Miu. But at the same time, I have some of my favourite items from smaller brands and even noname, and I still love them for how they look on me and how I feel while wearing them.

Describe your personal style of fashion?

It’s mostly classic and minimalist, but at times it can be provocative and eclectic, especially if I’m at a fashion week.

How did you find your personal style? Do you have a signature look?

My personal style is heavily influenced by my late grandmother. She used to take me to second hand stores and we used to put together outfits for me. I now use pinterest to keep a record of the outfit ideas that resonate with me and the clothes I own.

Picture provided by Katya Komarova

Do you have an influence on other people’s fashion style?

I hope I do. On my brand’s instagram account I regularly share some styling tips and ideas and I know our customers love it.
What are in your eyes the best trends at the moment?
lace, crochet, 90s

What are in your eyes the worst trends at the moment?

I like experiments, but often find the incorporation of sportswear in everyday looks quite bad, and I see it a lot these days

What kind of fashion advice would you give us?

It’s important to feel good in what you wear and feel confident. If you still don’t, continue experimenting, find stylists and bloggers that resonate with you, try repeating their looks. At some point you will feel you got it.

Who is your style icon, and why?

Always Audrey Hepburn. Classy, timeless, smart, romantic. You can never go wrong with this.

Is there something else you would like to share with us?

Thank you for the great questions and Merry Christmas

Fashion Inspiration Blog Series - Part 1 - Inspiration From The Cat World

Hi there, fashion enthusiasts! Do you ever wonder how the most unexpected muses can inspire fashion design? Have you ever thought about cats as the ultimate source of design inspiration?

Picture made by Seadbeady with AI art

Let me tell you how this all started. I live with two cats who have made it their mission to rule my household. πŸ™‚πŸΎπŸ

They don’t sleep on my keyboard (thank goodness), but they insist on claiming my gilet whenever I take it off. And yes, I have a faint heart, so I let them — because who can resist those eyes? πŸ˜¬πŸ‘—πŸΎ

I’ve also been creating quite a few feline-inspired artworks on nightcafΓ©. From Siberian fluff balls that look like they’re ready to star in a winter fashion campaign, to panthers that ooze Bond‑villain chic, these digital experiments became the spark for this series. 😺🎨❄️

Somewhere between my cats stealing my clothes and my AI art sessions, the idea clawed its way into existence. πŸ˜ΌπŸ‘—✨

Much to your surprise, perhaps, I know exactly what’s coming next in this series. Every post is carefully planned. πŸ˜πŸ“πŸ“…

Well, let’s be honest: that is a lie. I have no clue what the next chapter will be. More cats? No, I don’t think so. πŸ€”πŸ™€πŸš«

Maybe something wildly different. I know you loved my interviews, but ever since HARO reinvented itself, getting one has become trickier than convincing my cats to take a bath. πŸ˜¬πŸ›πŸˆ

Now here we are: Part 1 of my whiskered journey through fashion inspiration. Grab your faux fur, channel your inner lion, and let’s strut together onto this runway of claws, couture, and creativity. πŸ˜»πŸ¦πŸ‘

🐾 Part 1 – Fashion Inspiration from the Cat World

🐱 1. House Cats: The Cozy Couture Experts

House cats are the undisputed masters of comfort. Watching them curl up in a sunbeam is pure **design inspiration** for oversized knitwear and lounge‑ready silhouettes in **fashion design**. Imagine sweaters so soft they feel like a hug, cardigans that drape like a cat’s stretch, and blankets turned into wearable fashion. Their daily mantra of *nap, stretch, repeat* becomes a blueprint for cozy couture — proving that comfort can be chic when translated into fashion design.

❄️ 2. Siberian & Norwegian Forest Cats: Winter Warriors

These majestic fluffballs are basically walking faux fur coats. Their thick pelts inspire layered looks in **fashion design** — capes, mantels, and winter‑ready ensembles that combine survival with glamour. Think of snowy palettes, chunky textures, and outerwear that makes you feel invincible against the cold. As **design inspiration**, they remind us that fashion can be both practical and fabulous, keeping you warm while turning heads.

πŸ‘  3. Siamese & Oriental Shorthairs: Minimalist Supermodels

Sleek, slim, and striking with sharp contrasts, these cats embody runway minimalism. Their elegance translates into clean lines, bold accents, and outfits that whisper *less is more*. In **fashion design**, they’re the blueprint for timeless silhouettes — monochrome palettes, sharp tailoring, and accessories that pop. As **design inspiration**, they prove that simplicity can be powerful, and that elegance often lies in restraint.

🎭 4. Maine Coon: Drama Queen Deluxe

The Maine Coon, with its Shakespearean mane, is the diva of the cat world. In **fashion design**, they inspire statement coats, exaggerated collars, and dramatic silhouettes that demand applause. Picture voluminous fabrics, theatrical layers, and bold shapes that announce your presence before you say a word. As **design inspiration**, they remind us that fashion can be performance art — a way to step into a room and own it.

πŸŒ™ 5. Black Cats: Midnight Glam

Mysterious and magical, black cats are velvet gowns and satin slips personified. Their aura inspires **fashion design** that shimmers under moonlight — witchy chic meets midnight elegance. Think flowing dresses, glossy textures, and accessories that sparkle like starlight. As **design inspiration**, they embody the allure of mystery, proving that fashion can be both enchanting and empowering.

🐯 6. Tiger: The Striped Powerhouse

Tigers invented bold prints long before humans did. Their orange‑and‑black stripes scream confidence and energy. In **fashion design**, they inspire daring streetwear, statement jackets, and fearless patterns. Imagine stripes reimagined in neon, metallics, or oversized silhouettes. As **design inspiration**, tigers remind us that fashion is about power — the courage to stand out and roar.

πŸ‘‘ 7. Lion: The Royal Showstopper

With a mane that doubles as a crown, lions embody regal power. Their look inspires golden accents, voluminous collars, and silhouettes fit for royalty. In **fashion design**, lions are **design inspiration** for outfits that make you feel like monarch of the dance floor. Think metallic fabrics, bold jewelry, and gowns that flow like a royal robe. Fashion becomes a throne, and you the ruler.

πŸ–€ 8. Panther: Sleek & Dangerous Elegance

Panthers are the embodiment of “all black everything.” Their glossy presence inspires slinky dresses, leather jackets, and Bond‑villain chic. In **fashion design**, they’re the ultimate **design inspiration** for sophistication with a dangerous edge. Picture glossy leather, sharp tailoring, and silhouettes that whisper danger while oozing elegance. Fashion here is not just clothing — it’s attitude.

❄️ 9. Snow Leopard: Frosty Luxe

Snow leopards, with their smoky grey spots, are haute couture camouflage. Their icy palette inspires winter coats, glamorous gowns, and accessories that sparkle like frost. In **fashion design**, they’re **design inspiration** for frosty elegance — outfits that blend into snow yet stand out in crowds. Think pale silvers, whites, and greys paired with luxurious textures. Fashion becomes a winter wonderland.

⚡ 10. Jaguar & Cheetah: Speed Meets Style

Built for movement, jaguars and cheetahs inspire sporty prints and streamlined silhouettes. Their energy translates into athleisure that’s runway‑ready. In **fashion design**, they’re **design inspiration** for clothes that sprint with style — leggings with bold spots, sneakers with sleek lines, and jackets that look aerodynamic. Fashion here is about momentum, proving that style can keep pace with life’s speed.

🐾 A Purr‑fect Thank You

If you’ve made it all the way to the end of this whiskered fashion journey, thank you for sticking with me. I know blog posts can sometimes feel like marathons, but your curiosity and persistence mean the world. πŸ˜ŠπŸπŸŒ

Just like my cats who refuse to give up their spot on my gilet, you’ve stayed right here until the last line — and that deserves a round of applause (or at least a gentle purr). πŸ˜ΊπŸ‘πŸŽΆ

Now, here’s where you come in: if you’ve found a spark of design inspiration in these feline muses, or if you have ideas for the next chapter in this fashion design series, I’d love to hear them. πŸ€”✨πŸ–Œ️

Drop a comment below with your thoughts, your favorite cat‑inspired look, or even a wild suggestion for the next theme. Who knows? Your idea might just claw its way into the spotlight in Part 2. 🐾✨
