Interview With Social Media Influencer Renata - Finding My Personal Style

Ever wondered what it’s really like to be a social media influencer? Or how to find your personal style when your closet is a mix of "maybe this still fits" and "what was I thinking?"

I did too—which is why I started a blog interview series asking influencers all about their lives, their work, their personal style, and everything in between. πŸ˜ŠπŸ“✨

For a while, it went great! I had the pleasure of interviewing about eight fabulous individuals, each with their own unique journey, sense of style, and Instagram-worthy wisdom. πŸ˜πŸ’¬πŸ‘

Then, after that, things got a little… let's say quiet. Some of them stopped responding, others disappeared just like a sock in the laundry. πŸ˜ΆπŸ§¦πŸ•³️

Eventually, I hit pause on the project. Because let’s be honest, chasing after influencers can be more exhausting than finding matching earrings on a Monday morning. πŸ˜©πŸ’☕️

Today, I found an influencer that was very easy to catch. Who? Me, of course. I figured: why not turn the spotlight on myself? 😏🎀

I may not have millions of followers or a glam squad, but I am a social media influencer in my own quirky, tea-drinking, cat-loving way. πŸ˜ΈπŸ΅πŸ“±

My personal style? Let’s just say it’s a curious mix of sparkle-on-stage and jeans-on-the-sofa. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘–πŸŽ€

In this post, I’ll be answering the same interview questions I once asked others—questions about fashion, blogging, social media, and what it’s like trying to look stylish while juggling algorithms and cat hair. πŸ˜¬πŸ“ΈπŸΎ

Now then, grab a snack without animal hair, sit back, and enjoy this very honest, slightly chaotic, and 100% unsponsored conversation with… me. πŸ˜„πŸΏπŸ›‹️

What is your name?

Renata

How old are you?

Oh dear, do you really want to know? Alright then, fair is fair—if I ask others, I should spill the beans, too. I’m 61 years fabulous. Yes, that’s right. A seasoned autumn chicken with a well-stocked closet and plenty of stories to match.

How many followers do you have?

Currently, I have:
8,300 lovely souls on Instagram
7,500 on X (formerly known as Twitter, like a pop star in rebranding mode)
6,100 on Pinterest (where I pin more than I actually do)
360 on Facebook (yes, still hanging in there)
My blog had 12,300 viewers last month – thank you, internet!
80% of my followers are female
And my Ahrefs Website Authority is over 40 (apparently, that’s good – I just nod and smile at the analytics).

What made you decide to become an influencer?

Well, it all started quite innocently. I was simply trying to promote my blog. Back in the day, I relied on Google Plus (R.I.P.), which magically brought in readers. But when that disappeared into the digital abyss, I had to find other ways. A friend was using Instagram and I thought, “Why not?” I had quite a few Etsy seller friends (yes, I used to make beadwork jewelry), and gaining followers felt easy at first. Spoiler alert: it got a lot trickier after 5,000. Algorithms are not for the faint-hearted.

How many hours do you spend on Instagram on average?

Oh, that’s a tricky one. It really depends. On days I publish a new post or reel, it can easily add up to two hours. Other days, maybe 30 minutes tops. I always think I should do more… but then my hobbies start waving at me like, “Hello? Remember us?” There are just not enough hours in a day. Someone please send help—or extra hours.

Is fashion important to you? Why?

Always has been. As a teenager, I often felt envious of others wearing trendy outfits. We didn’t have a lot of money, and fashion wasn’t a top priority in our family. My sisters couldn’t care less, and I was too much of a goody-goody to complain. Plus, being highly sensitive (which I only discovered years later), I already had enough to deal with. I was often teased for being “too sensitive,” but you know what? What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger—and way more stylish.

What are your successes and how did you achieve them?

My biggest blog success? Growing from just a handful of views to over 10,000 a month on average. That still blows my mind! I’m also super proud of the interviews I’ve done with established creatives. On Instagram, I’ve had the chance to promote beauty boxes from big names like L'OrΓ©al, Garnier, and Maybelline. Not bad for someone who still struggles with reels.

What’s something you might want to do in the future?

I’d love to collaborate with more brands again. Things have been a bit quiet on that front lately—maybe the algorithm took a nap. Or maybe I need to bribe it with cat videos. Either way, I’m ready!

Is the name of the Brand important to you when you buy clothing?

If the quality is good, I honestly don’t care much about the brand name. That said, I do enjoy the occasional high-end item—on sale, of course. I call it: Champagne taste on a tea budget.

Describe your personal style of clothing?

It depends on the occasion. When I perform (yes, I sing in a duo!), I go for a bit of sparkle. Not disco ball level, but something with a little pizzazz. On regular days, it’s jeans and T-shirts for me, with a splash of color. I’m always drawn to red and pink—my wardrobe could probably use a color intervention.

How did you find your personal style? Do you have a signature look?

Honestly? I didn’t find my style—my husband did. He has a great eye and gives the best fashion advice. Though sometimes I end up with more bags than I planned. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right?

Do you have an influence on other people’s clothing style?

I don’t think I have a massive influence, but who knows? I do know that some of my fabulous interviewees definitely inspire others.

What are in your eyes the best trends at the moment?

I love the earthy tones and natural textures making a comeback. And powder pink? Yes please! It’s like a soft hug in color form.

What are in your eyes the worst trends at the moment?

Baggy and low-rise jeans—why are they back? I survived them once, I don’t want to do it again. Also, oversized clothing? Let’s just say I prefer to not look like I borrowed my uncle’s coat.

What kind of fashion advice would you give us?

Take someone with you when you go shopping—preferably someone honest but kind. And please, take a good look at your closet before buying more. Ask yourself: do I really need another red sweater? (Spoiler: I usually do.) Most importantly, don’t buy anything you don’t feel great in. It’ll just hang there collecting dust and guilt.

Who is your style icon and why?

Oh, I love them all… except for a few I don’t. Let’s just say: if they mix confidence with elegance and a touch of quirkiness, I’m a fan.

Is there something else you would like to share with us?

Before I wrap this up, let me leave you with this little nugget of wisdom: don’t let other people dim your sparkle – especially not the ones who can’t even find their own light switch (and yes, I’m speaking from personal experience – I walk into rooms all the time and forget why I’m there).

Believe in yourself. You are more than good enough, even when you're wearing mismatched socks and wondering where you left your tea (spoiler: it’s cold now). Every single person has something inside them that makes them special – whether it’s a talent, a passion, or an uncanny ability to quote 90s song lyrics at inappropriate times.
