Hi there, my dear fashion lovers! Have you ever wondered what it takes to become a fabulous fashion designer? Why tailoring is the unsung superhero of the fashion world?
Same here. ๐๐งต๐ค
Sure, I can handle a sewing machine. I’ve even created a few things I was almost proud of. Ok, I admit, I was very proud of them. ๐๐✨
However, mending clothes, replacing zippers or hemming trousers? Honestly, I’d rather design a dramatic new cape than fix a button. Repairs just don’t spark joy (unless we’re talking about watching someone else do them). ๐ฌ๐งท๐
♀️
Luckily, I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Ira Lysa, a true pro in the world of fashion. She’s the founder of Imperial Alterations, Ira’s Bridal Studio, and her own label iralysa.com. ๐๐ ๐️
With over 15 years of experience as a fashion designer and master of all things tailoring, Ira turns fabric into fairy tales. Especially if you’re a bride-to-be or someone who just wants their clothes to actually fit. ๐ฅฐ๐ฐ๐งต
A colleague of mine once swore that some mischievous gnomes had snuck into his wardrobe at night and shrunk all his clothes. ๐ง๐ฌ๐
To be honest. I believed him—because it’s happened to me too. One day, your favorite trousers fit like a glove, and the next they scream in protest when you try to zip them up. ๐
๐๐
Either I’m growing or those gnomes are working overtime. Thankfully, people like Ira Lysa exist to bring peace between humans and rebellious garments. ๐๐ค๐งต
In this interview, she shares her journey, her secrets to a perfect fit, and why every stitch tells a story (a very well-dressed one). ๐๐๐
What is your name, function and the company you work for?
My name is Ira Lysa. I’m a fashion designer and the founder of Imperial Alterations, Ira’s Bridal Studio, and the fashion brand iralysa.
How old are you?
I'm in my 30s.
What kind of work do you do, or what are you studying to be?
I’m a fashion designer and expert tailor with over 15 years of experience. I specialize in bespoke alterations, bridal wear, and custom fashion design.
What made you decide to become a Fashion Designer? Tell me about your journey.
My venture into fashion came from the desire and need to achieve best the craftsmanship and the covering people themselves with clothing.
I have always been fortunate enough to find tailoring and having an eye for elegance so I started my own brand from scratch. After years I helped my self along towards a combination of technical skill and a vision infused design quite a lot to aid people in feeling confident and beautiful pendant throughout necessity in their apparel.
Is fashion important to you? Why?
It makes people bring out the best of them in terms of confidence. To me, it is more of an art; a functional piece of creation that ought to be beautiful but serve a real aim in aiding people’s daily affairs and streamline lives.
What are your successes, and how did you achieve them?
Some of my proudest successes are launching my own fashion label, building a reputable bridal studio, and establishing a beloved tailoring shop.
All of these successes came from paying attention to detail and focusing on quality, listening to clients and their needs, and having high standards in everything I do: materials, service, and everything in-between.
What’s something you might want to do in the future?
I would love to expand the reach of my brand globally and start a ready-to-wear collection that combines luxury tailoring with the ease of casual wear.
Is the name of the Brand important to you when you buy clothing or jewelry?
Not always. It is more about craftsmanship, fit, and design. A name has its weight, yes, but what matters most is the quality that stems from it.
Describe your personal style of fashion.
My style is elegant, refined, and tailored, yet with a modern twist. I appreciate classic shapes with low-key, yet bold, statement designs that put focus into the details rather than shouting for attention.
How did you find your personal style? Do you have a signature look?
After years of working hands-on with fabrics, client shapes, and real clients, I developed a style that marries structure and femininity. My signature features clean lines, luxurious textiles, and sharp tailoring.
Do you have an influence on other people’s fashion style?
Yes, especially through my bridal designs and alterations. Clients often seek me out for styling advice, and I have had the pleasure to assist many women with defining and refining their style.
What are in your eyes the best trends at the moment?
The resurgence of craftsmanship is something I appreciate—the love of handwork, sustainable materials, and timeless tailoring are all things I relish seeing right now.
What are in your eyes the worst trends at the moment?
I do not like fast fashion that compromises quality and ethics for quick production. Also, overly trendy ones that are just fads lacking depth.
What kind of fashion advice would you give us?
Invest in fit. Even the basics can appear opulent with proper fitting. Tailor your clothes when needed and avoid following trends; instead, cultivate a wardrobe that resonates with your identity.
Who is your style icon, and why?
I admire women like Carolina Herrera. For her timeless elegance and attention to details. She personifies classic style with poise and strength.
Is there something else you would like to share with us?
Bear in mind: dress code should give you wings, not clip your wings. No matter if it’s your wedding dress or your daily clothing, it should enhance your being and make you shine at your best.”
