Sustainable Fashion and Eco-Friendly Fashion Practices - Part 3

Hi There! Are you ready for a third part about sustainable fashion and eco-friendly practices?

Composition by Seadbeady

Can you believe it? We’re on the third leg of our exceptional adventure to make our planet a greener and happier place through fashion! πŸ¦΅πŸ˜„

No, of course, we don’t have three legs. Can you imagine what fashion would look like? Designers would have to redesign everything to fit that third leg into a pair of pants. πŸ˜‚

There would be advantages, though. Do you know, for instance, why a three-legged person would become a pro athlete? Because they always have a leg up on the competition! πŸƒ‍♂️πŸƒ‍♀️

Enough jokes, so what do these fashion brands do, and how do they become eco-friendly and sustainable? Well, get ready to discover the secrets, my eco-champion friends! πŸŒΏπŸ˜‰

Fashion brands are like the creative minds behind the clothes we wear. Some of them have this incredible vision to make the world a cleaner, kinder place, and they put their visions into action! 🌍😊

That’s why I just had to write these blog posts about eco-friendly fashion because it’s like dressing up the Earth in fancy, green clothes! πŸ’šπŸ˜

Hooray, I totally love it because when I was tiny, I had a blast dressing up and pretending! πŸ‘§πŸŽ‰

Oh dear, I just realised, I don’t have a green dress, and I finally got the black dress I wanted so badly. Do I seriously have to give it up for a green one now? 😧

Nope, not at all my friends! Mother Earth is the one who’s doing a wardrobe makeover, not us! 😎

In this exciting part of our adventure, we’ll meet some incredible fashion brands. We’ll learn how they dream big and turn those dreams into reality by crafting clothing that’s kind to the environment and people. πŸŽ‡πŸ˜„

Fashion brands can be like Earth’s best buddies, helping it stay clean, green, and happy. And on this adventure, we’ll discover how they do it, all while creating stylish and sustainable outfits. Are you excited? Because I sure am! πŸ˜

Napes & Necklines's Vision on Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable fashion to me is not much different from the three R’s adage used to encourage waste reduction – reduce, reuse, and recycle.

This same adage applies to my work in fashion, just slightly different. Reduce the amount of clothing consumed, reuse worn out or outdated clothing, and use recycled fabric whenever possible.

Reduce

I designed a new type of scarf/collar and clip because I had a closet full of expensive shirts that I didn’t like and hardly ever wore.

Not a fan of traditional scarves or necklaces that hang around the neck, however, I needed a way to polish up my basic cotton shirts that are comfortable to wear but lack elegance.

Now, I buy fewer shirts and have the option to dress up the shirts I already own with my scarf/collar design.

Picture provided by Napes & Necklines

Reuse

In addition to selling my scarf/collar and clips, I will soon be also offering my pattern for free so that people can make their own A-line shaped scarves out of whatever fabric they already own (i.e., fabric scraps and old clothing).

Recycle

My current scarf/collar is made of cotton, but I plan to use recycled fabrics and organic cotton in the future.

Lost Discoveries's Vision on Sustainable Fashion

I started selling vintage fashion on Etsy some years ago.
After handling many vintage garments, I realized that they teach a lesson.

Many have been meticulously repaired with carefully sewn-in holes by past owners. They did all this to extend the garments' lifespan.

People had different relationships with their possessions back then. Minor flaws were not a reason to throw clothes away.

Today, fast fashion encourages us to buy low-quality garments for cheap, and replace them as soon as they lose color and shape. If you buy fast fashion, then you know how soon that happens.

Picture provided by Lost Discoveries

Quality issues are one aspect that raises demand for vintage. The other drive is escaping mass production. Clothes with age are becoming rare and unique. Wearing them allows you to create your own distinct style.

I hardly buy new stuff anymore for myself. Last year, I only picked up a pair of jeans from a regular store. It's actually quite liberating.

My wardrobe is now full of designer pieces, high-quality linen, and silk outfits. I scored them for a cheap price. Much less than shopping in the cheapest fast fashion chains would cost me.

LeatherLuxe's Vision on Sustainable Fashion

In today's world, where the fashion industry is synonymous with fast trends and disposable production, sustainable fashion stands out as a beacon of hope.

It's not just a trend; it's a movement towards responsible and ethical practices that benefit both the planet and its people.

There are many ways to make more sustainable fashion choices.

Here are a few tips:

Choose natural materials, such as organic cotton, linen, and hemp.
Avoid synthetic materials, such as polyester and nylon, which are made from fossil fuels.
Look for recycled or upcycled materials..
Buy secondhand items.
Repair and mend your clothes instead of throwing them away.
Support brands that are committed to sustainability.

Picture provided by LeatherLuxe

Sustainable fashion is not just about the materials used to make products. It is also about the way clothes are produced and disposed of.

When you buy sustainable items, you are helping to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

At LeatherLuxe, we're committed to sustainable fashion in every stitch and detail. We prioritize using high-quality, eco-friendly materials like top-grain leather in our products.

By choosing materials that age beautifully and endure, we encourage longevity and reduce the need for constant replacements.

I want to say a big thank you to three awesome brands for helping with this blog post. 😍

And if you're thinking, "Oh no, I wish my brand was in this blog," don't worry! πŸ˜‰

You can still email me and tell me, in at least 150 words but no more than 200 words, how your brand helps Mother Nature with eco-friendly fashion. πŸ˜ƒ

Now's a great time to read my other blog posts about this topic. Check them out! πŸ˜„

Sustainable Fashion and Eco-Friendly Fashion Practices - Part 2

Hi There! Are you ready for a second part about sustainable fashion and eco-friendly practices?

Composition by Seadbeady

Guess what, my fashion-forward friends and eco-warriors alike! There is no time like the present. πŸ˜„

It’s like Alice Morse Earle said; “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present.” 😁🎁

Ooh, I love a great present. Must be for my birthday tomorrow. Although I am dreading it somewhat. It’s got the number 6 and a 0 in it, and it’s not 06. You get just one attempt to guess my age. 😏

I’ll make it easy and give you the answer already. It’s 60, way past a half century, so I’m definitely not an eco-friendly spring chicken anymore. πŸ˜–πŸ”

There are some positives, though. At 60, you’ve unlocked the “Super Wisdom” power-up, allowing you to give the best life advice to anyone who asks (and sometimes even when they don’t ask!). Like, let's say, about sustainable fashion. πŸ˜‰

You know why? Because I’ve been through so much, and I know how to handle all sorts of stuff like a boss! 😜

Whenever a challenge tries to mess with me, I whip out my special “I’ve been there, done that” attitude, and Bam! That’s my secret weapon to tackle anything that comes my way! πŸ’ͺ🀠

I might be older, but I’ve got this super funny side too, and my jokes can make anyone giggle! They say laughter makes you feel younger, so I’m like a super duper kid at heart! πŸ€£πŸ’•

So, watch out, world, because this 60-year-old is ready to rock and roll with all the wisdom and humor she’s got! Time to show everyone that being 60 is just a number, and I’m still the coolest cat in town! πŸ˜ŽπŸΎ

Well, this cat is ready for a super cool sequel to our sustainable fashion extravaganza, and I hope you are, too? 😨

Get your eco-friendly accessories and green beanies ready because we’re diving back into the fabulous world of “Sustainable Fashion: The Sequel”! 😍

Furthermore, thebrand's products are thoughtfully crafted through a harmonious fusion of cutting-edge minimalistic design principles and time-honored craftsmanship techniques, embodying Atelier Madre's commitment to delivering items that seamlessly blend contemporary aesthetics with the rich heritage of traditional artisanship.

One of the brand's most innovative practices is its just-in-time production model. Atelier Madre maintains no more than a single SKU in stock within their showroom at any given time. When a product is sold, a new one is crafted on the spot, eliminating overproduction and deadstock issues that plague many fashion companies.

Margo Paige's Vision on Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable fashion is about quality over quantity. Choosing pieces that last longer, can be worn in different ways, and be multi-functional is one of the first steps towards a more mindful closet.

Instead of fast fashion pieces (where the clothing and style last only a short time), consider a few higher quality pieces with a classic style that will stay in fashion quickly.

Using fewer pieces often and for longer means that your wardrobe can go further because you are buying less and using more.
Choosing items that match more options in your closet is a good first step - our clear handbags match just about any outfit.

When they have reached the end of their life, they can be returned to Margo Paige through the Take Back Program, where the material is recycled and reused again. These bags are made from recycled PVC and faux leather, available in crossbody, purse, and backpack styles.

Cinder and Salt's Vision on Sustainable Fashion

Sustainability & fashion don’t often mix, which is why at cinder + salt we strive to create apparel that will last as long as our customers want to wear it. Sustainable apparel needs to withstand hundreds of washes, decades of wear and be easy enough to repair or repurpose.

We design with longevity in mind and that starts with sourcing; we search for the most eco fabrications, quality construction and longevity of the knits. We design our prints in a similar way, focusing on simple, timeless imagery that stays fun and relevant with age.

Picture provided by Cinder and Salt

Our printing process is no exception, and we pride ourselves on using reclaimed inks, solar power and creating zero waste in our production.

We are always working to inspire our customers to rethink how they treat the waste in their lives. Many of our accessories and decor products are crafted from our production waste, like our plushie ornaments that are stuffed with fabric and thread scraps.

We provide inspiration & resources for our community to engage in environmental activism with ease. As an apparel brand, for us, it’s not just about the apparel, it’s about being true to our company values in every aspect.

I would like to express my gratitude to the three brands for their contributions to this blog post. 😍

Sustainable Fashion and Eco-Friendly Fashion Practices - Part 1

Hi There! Are you ready for something new?

Composition by Seadbeady

If I’d say, let’s talk about sustainable fashion and eco-friendly options in fashion. Would you keep reading? πŸ˜•

Perhaps you would first like to know how I became eco-friendly. Back in the day, when I was just a little troublemaker, my parents were on a mission to save Mother Nature and they made sure I knew it! 😨

Oh man, dropping a paper wrapper from, let’s say, a tasty lollipop was a big no-no in my house! 😬

My parents were like secret agents for the Earth, always sneaking around, waiting to catch me in an environmental slip-up. They’d give me a real talking-to if I dared to mess with Mother Nature. 😭

Ah, perhaps a little exaggerated, but let’s say I had to be sure to be eco-friendly. Still, looking back, I am grateful they taught me how important it was to keep our planet clean. I may have been a mischievous kid, but I sure learned my lesson about messing with Mother Nature! 😒

Ok, you got me. I admit I wasn’t mischievous at all, but I had two sisters who did their utmost best to be better at it than me. I was miss goody two shoes, always doing what was right. Hmm, I had better say almost always. 😏

Still, my upbringing and my love for fashion brought me to the idea of this new blog post about sustainable fashion. πŸ˜‰

In this wacky world where most of us try to be more eco-friendly, brands have put on ‘their green thinking caps’ and they gave the fashion industry a good shake-up. It’s like they all woke up one day and said; “Hey, let’s make the world a cooler place to live in!” 😘

No, we aren’t all moving to the Northpole, not literally cool, you fool. 😜

Oops, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. Too late, what has been said is said, or is it? πŸ˜‚

The point is, they’re like fashion superheroes, but instead of capes, they’re rocking those green thinking caps, ready to save the planet one stylish outfit at a time. 😎

It’s like they’ve pressed the reset button on the fashion landscape and are creating a whole new trend: saving the Earth while looking fabulous. So get ready for their vision of sustainability. 😍

Andes Alpaca's Vision on Sustainable Fashion

At Andes Alpaca, we weave together sustainability, craftsmanship, and luxury fashion. Every piece we offer is created by the skilled hands of Andean artisans, preserving ancient weaving and knitting traditions. This people-first, machine-free approach supports local economies and preserves precious cultural heritage.

Our commitment to the environment is reflected in our choice of material: Alpaca wool, sourced from the free-roaming alpacas of the Andes. It's renewable, eco-friendly, and less demanding on water resources than other materials. Plus, our handcrafted pieces are designed to last, counteracting the disposable mindset of fast fashion.

Our brand is more than just a purveyor of luxury goods. We are a story - a story of timeless fashion, skilled craftsmanship, and respect for both nature and culture.

By blending the old with the new, we're leading the charge toward a more sustainable, more equitable fashion industry. And each Andes Alpaca piece is a beautiful testament to this journey.

Dressarte's Vision on Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable fashion, also known as eco-friendly or ethical fashion, refers to the practice of designing, producing, distributing, and consuming clothing, accessories, and footwear in a way that minimizes the negative impact on the environment.

Dressarte is an online service that offers virtual tailoring and styling to create custom-made, sustainable clothing. Dressarte collaborates with fabric mills and utilizes certified luxurious surplus fabrics when producing clothes on demand.

The company is a leading example of how the business can use the latest technologies to reduce waste that goes to landfills. Thanks to 3D design and virtual measurements, the tailoring process is smooth and returns are low.

By supporting local artisans, Dressarte promotes social responsibility and enhances the well-being of workers and communities involved in the fashion industry. By helping clients design timeless clothes and capsule wardrobes, Dressarte encourages clients to shift away from the fast-paced, disposable fashion culture and encourages mindful consumption and reduction of unnecessary purchases.

Picture provided by Ruby Sampson

Ruby Sampson's Vision on Sustainable Fashion

When I started Ruby Sampson, I was excited just to launch and create a physical manifestation of what was once an idea. However as my brand evolved, I became increasingly uneasy about the full breadth of the fashion industry’s carbon footprint and my participation.

I decided to embrace digital printing because I could both align production with my eco-conscious values and own every aspect of my manufacturing process.

Picture provided by Ruby Sampson

Sustainable fashion is a collective call to action, not just for shoppers but also designers, suppliers, and manufacturers. It requires us to stretch beyond cheap labor and quick gratification. Sustainable fashion asks us to align our values with our spending habits and become intentional consumers.

However, fast fashion isn't on the decline anytime soon. In the face of inflation, consumers are always looking for stylish ways to save. However, for every fast fashion purchase, shoppers should balance the scale with a sustainable fashion purchase.

I want to express my gratitude to the three brands for their contributions to this blog post. 😍

If you are thinking; "Darn, I wish I would have been in this blog post", no worries. πŸ˜‰

Eco-Friendly Options in The Netherlands - Bambooo Beauty Reusable Cotton Pads

Hi There..... Are you always looking for eco-friendly options? Have you ever tried reusable cotton pads?

Until a few days ago, I had never tried them, but I love finding new eco-friendly options and products. Most of all I like to let my readers know where to find ways to make a positive impact on Mother Nature. 😎

I suppose it has a lot to do with the way I was brought up. When I was a kid almost everything was eco-friendly. Ah yes, I already told you I'm not a spring chicken. Does that actually mean that I am more the fall type or worst-case scenario a winter chicken? πŸ˜•

Talking about chickens makes me think of the smell when my grandmother plucked one of hers. She would burn the feathers inside the stove. Not the most pleasant smell, I can assure you. πŸ˜–

It also reminds me of the times we went to the chicken vendor. At Easter time, when you came to buy a chicken they gave you a cute little chick on top. They kept them in a large crate. 😦

You could see those cuties running around from one side to the other. Nobody thought about how they would feel. That's just the way it was, no questions asked. 😟

I always was a little sad we never took any home, but then again I don't think it would have made me happy to see them get caught in our cat's claws. Actually, I'm pretty sure of it. 😬

Let's get back to those eco-friendly options I was talking about. Bambooo Beauty sent me these reusable cotton pads in exchange for my honest opinion. 😍

Eco-Friendly, reusable cotton pads

Making a difference is in the little things, in the everyday products we use, throw away and which have a negative impact on the environment. In personal care products, a lot of plastic and disposable products are used and there is actually little choice for the user in sustainable alternatives.

Bambooo Beauty offers us a sustainable everyday option and a pleasant experience at the same time!

3-layer reusable cotton pads

With the 3-layer reusable soft cotton pads from Bambooo Beauty, cleaning your face becomes a party every day! Enjoy the soft bamboo cotton pads, while you contribute to a better planet.

Includes a laundry bag to keep them together in the washing machine! With 20 cotton pads, you have enough to last until your next wash.

Why reusable cotton pads?

We use about 1000 cotton pads a year. They are made of cotton, a plant species that need up to 20,000 liters of water per kilo! These all end up in the trash.

We think that's a shame! And that's not even taken into consideration the transport of raw materials or packaging materials.

The bamboo cotton pads are transported once and can be used up to 1000 times! The cotton pads have 3 layers, making it possible to use the front and back for different purposes.

Why bamboo?

Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world, some species grow up to 1 meter a day! Bamboo absorbs the most CO2 of all plants and reduces the greenhouse effect most effectively.

Bamboo is also the most effective way to purify wastewater from heavy metals from the ground.

How long will they last?

You can wash the cotton pads by hand after use or wash them in the washing bag with the regular wash for thorough cleaning.

By rinsing them in between, make-up residues will not absorb as quickly and you can use the pads several times before they have to be washed.

After purchase, you will also receive an e-book with detailed washing instructions! Because the cotton wool is 3-layered, you can use both front and back for different purposes, such as cleaning the eyes and then the rest of your face.

The reusable cotton pads can last up to 1000 washes. If you put one pad a day in the wash, this is equivalent to over 40 years of enjoyment!

Details of the reusable cotton pads

20 pieces of 3-layered reusable cotton pads
70% bamboo & 30% cotton
Environmentally friendly product & packaging
Free from plastic. Contributes to a cleaner planet
100% organic. 100% biodegradable.
Comfortable cleaning process.

My opinion on the reusable cotton pads

I love the wooden container, and the type of wood is a perfect fit for our bathroom shelves. Because of the handy laundry bag, you can easily put them in the washing machine together with your other laundry. 😎

They are also nice and soft on my face, so I can also use them on the delicate under-eye skin. They are about the same size as the throwaway pads I used to use. 😊

Whether or not you are a spring chicken like me, having a good skincare routine is very important. I mostly use the white ones to clean my face, and the black ones to apply my face serum. One thing is certain. No more throwaway cotton pads for me. 😊

If you are interested in buying those reusable cotton pads, I've got great news for you.
With the code BamboooBeautyBabe you get a 10% discount up until augustus 22 2022! 😍

Hope you like my blog.....Until next time.....Have a nice day
