Hi There, my style-savvy readers! Do you ever wonder what a fashion stylist does all day? And have you ever dreamed of starting your own style blog but had no clue where to begin? Well, meet someone who cracked the code—Jana Meister!

Back in 2012, Jana turned her love for fashion into JANA STYLE® Blog. Let’s just say things escalated in a very glamorous way. 💃✨🌟

We’re talking features in InStyle Magazine, her face on a Macy’s billboard in NYC (yes, right there in Times Square, where tourists take blurry selfies), and even a spot in the Today Show’s style guide! 😲🏙️📸

Meanwhile, I consider it a major achievement if I leave the house without mismatched socks. 😆🧦📸

I asked Jana the same questions I always throw at my interviewees. Who knows, maybe this time I’ll stumble upon the secret formula for blogging stardom. 🤔📚✨

A genius tip here, a little insider knowledge there… Next thing you know, my blog will be swarming with new followers and fabulous people begging to be interviewed! 😎📈🌟

If I were a spring chicken living in America, I’d know exactly what to do. That ship has sailed—no spring chicken sitting on the other end of this laptop. 🐥💻⏳

Still, it’s never too late to learn a trick or two from the pros. Now then, grab a cup of tea (or something stronger, I won’t judge) and let’s dive into Jana’s story! ☕📖✨

What is your name, function and the company you work for?

Jana Meister, Blogger & Fashion Stylist // Jana Style Blog

How old are you?

40

What kind of work do you do or what are you studying to be?

I am a Kansas City, MO based blogger and stylist. I started my blog after I graduated from college back in 2012. I wanted to get into the commercial styling industry, so I created Jana Style Blog as a portfolio of all the projects, fashion events, trends, and styled outfits that I loved.

After college I volunteered for several fashion shows and was starting to meet people in the industry. I documented all the fun and amazing projects I had worked on because I was hoping that I could use my blog to connect with brands and people in the industry for a job. That journey has now led me to my own styling business, blog, and influencer marketing platform for the past 13 years!

What made you decide to become a Fashion Stylist? Tell me about your journey.

My career in fashion started when I was just out of High School, I graduated and went to college but wasn’t sure what career path I wanted to take. I started working at a local Maurices store and quickly fell in love with putting together outfits and helping clients find clothing that made them feel their best.

I became really passionate about working in the industry and started to network and volunteer for as many things as I could. Eventually I was able to start to build a portfolio of commercial styling and even began doing some one-on-one personal styling.

Is fashion important to you? Why?

Fashion is very important to me. It’s a creative outlet and a passion to inspire other woman to feel confident in their clothes. I truly believe when you look your best you feel your best!

I love to share new fashion trends, colors, and styles through my blog by writing and also through video creation and photography. Fashion brings me a lot of joy and gives me a tool to share my passion with others.

What are your successes, and how did you achieve them?

I have been really lucky throughout my blogging and styling journey. I think I started my blog and Instagram at a really good time; it was before so many other people had started to explore sharing fashion through online platforms.

I connected with a niche group of followers who loved a similar style as me and wanted to see clothing worn on “real” body shapes. I dress for the everyday woman and that has helped me to connect online and offline with clients and followers.

My love for writing, creating outfits, and also my interest in marketing, photography, and digital media has also helped me to achieve some of my bigger goals. I have networked in my local fashion community and met people who support my business and my blog locally.

I have also traveled and attended fashion events in other cities like San Diego, Dallas, New York, and Palm Springs. I also joined industry organizations like Fashion Group International which gave me connections in the fashion and interior design industry across the country.

Don’t be afraid to reach out to potential clients, brands, bloggers, photographers, and other business owners who you would like to work with. Collaboration is a key to success in any business.

What’s something you might want to do in the future?

I’ve always dreamed of having my own collection or collaboration line of accessories, shoes, and handbags. I LOVE to accessorize my outfits and this would be something that would be amazing to do one day! Send me the good vibes, I really want to make this happen!!

Is the name of the Brand important to you when you buy clothing or jewelry?

I wouldn’t say I am someone who shops for brand names. I personally like to shop for quality. I want my clothing and accessories to last over time and be an investment that can be worn over multiple seasons. I do gravitate towards brands that make quality items and value the quality of their clothing pieces and accessories.

Describe your personal style of fashion?

My personal style is comfy, casual, and chic with an occasional girly dressed up look. I love feminine dresses and skirts, but I also love a simple casual look with comfy jeans and a dressy top.

I love accessories! I think a whole outfit can be put together by adding a pretty necklace, some earrings, and a great handbag. Don’t forget a cute pair of sunglasses!

How did you find your personal style? Do you have a signature look?

I would definitely say that my blog has helped me to find my personal style and also has helped me to evolve my style over time. Taking photos of your outfits as frequently as I do really help you to see what styles are most flattering on your body.

I also have learned what fits my body shape, what colors look good on me, and also how to style certain pieces. Taking photos of my outfits has also given me the ability to document the way I style things so I can remember my favorite looks. I don’t think that I have a specific signature look, but I am always a girly girl. I love pink, pastel shades, and any kind of feminine styles.

In what way do you influence other people’s fashion style?

I love to share upcoming trends, colors, and celebrity fashions through my blog, on-air morning news segments, and on my social media channels.

I research runway trends, featured styles, and colors, many seasons before they make it to mainstream fashion. Trend research is something I have always been interested in and love to explore as a tool to share with my followers.

What are in your eyes the best trends at the moment?

I have been loving the return of bright colors, the mix of feminine and sporty styles, wide leg jean trends, and the return of the ballet flat shoes.

What are in your eyes the worst trends at the moment?

Right now, the trend I most want to see go is the overly baggy and extremely loose clothing trend. I love a wide leg style and an oversized jacket or sweater, but I also love a clean tailored look.

I feel like balance in an outfit is important and I also think dressing to enhance your body shape in a flattering way is ideal. It’s hard for me to style the extremely oversized looks – I hope this trend is on its way out.

What kind of fashion advice would you give us?

Fashion is meant to be fun, don’t take it too seriously. If you love something wear it! So many times, we get into our own heads about what we should and shouldn’t be wearing. Always wear clothes that make you feel good!!

Who is your style icon, and why?

I have had many style icons over the years, I always love to look for inspiration in magazines, TV shows, red carpet and runway looks, and of course other bloggers. I love Lauren Conrad, Rachel Zoe, Princess Diana and bloggers like @kendieveryday and @krystin_lee

Is there something else you would like to share with us?

A few of my favorite spring styles include, flowy fun dresses, wide leg pants, embroidered details, wedge sandals, and sleek sneakers!
