Interview With Fashion Stylist Jennifer Koch

Hi There..... Have you ever met a Fashion Stylist or Personal stylist in person?

Would you like to learn a little more about their background, and what drove them to become fashion stylists, personal stylists, or both? 😊

Humor me and just say yes, or I will unleash all the humor I got in me to get what I want. I’m not even certain what that would look like, but are you actually willing to take the chance? 😈

Nah, I’m a wimp. Not a total wimp though, because I can kill a fly, although they take revenge, you know. Ah yes, it happened to me yesterday. I was outside knitting when suddenly a fly had the nerve to take a seat on my bottle of water. 😲

No, that’s not all. It sat there and left a dirty black spot of feces on the top. I am telling you the truth, and I was just minding my business. 😝

Better beware next time you see one of those ugly black suckers. They may be out to get you. 😏

Let's fly back to our fashion stylist on the blog today. It's the 36-year-old Jennifer Koch, who is the personal stylist for Stylegasm.

What kind of work do you do, or what are you studying to be?

I am a personal stylist - I work 1-1 with women and men to help them express their true selves through style and image.  That includes Feng Shui wardrobe sessions, personal shopping, styling, style oracle readings, travel packing, and so much more.

What made you decide to become a Fashion Stylist?

Actually, I never sought to become a fashion stylist, it just naturally developed that way.
I always knew my calling was fashion. I worked in retail sales at Saks Fifth Avenue and Kate Spade and also fashion PR in Paris.

Then, I moved to Bali, Indonesia, and started a bespoke fashion brand. I got to know my clients deeply.  Naturally, they started asking for my help with services, like shopping trips, wardrobe clean-outs, etc.

Over time, I realized my genius was actually in the services part of the business, so I ended up pivoting there.

Is fashion important to you? Why?

Style expresses who you are! It really lifts your mood and helps you show up as your best self in the world. Me, I have always loved clothes. It’s my creative playground.

What are your successes and how did you achieve them?

My greatest success is being true to myself.  I’ve lived a very unconventional adult life, rich with many experiences like traveling the world, being an expat multiple times, and starting many businesses.

I am grateful I got to really know myself and also have done a lot of healing along the way.

Is the name of the Brand important to you when you buy clothing?

I am not one of those label whores that buys something to show off some status, nor do I recommend this to clients. But sure, there is a meaning behind brands - I love to learn about a brand’s story, their craftsmanship, etc.

Describe your personal style of clothing?

My personal style is bright, expressive, creative, fun, and polished.
But this also depends on my mood. I can also be chic, edgy, quirky, etc.

How did you find your personal style? Do you have a signature look?

I don’t really believe in a “signature look.” For me, as a creative, that is so boring.  I love to mix it up! I somehow end up defaulting to pink, often, though.

In what way do you influence other people’s clothing style?

With my clients, we start with a Style Oracle Reading (I created my personal oracle deck!). This is really fun because it taps into the person’s subconscious and brings out their deeper style desires.

Then we move into creating mood boards, clearing out their current wardrobe, and then, of course, shopping and styling! My clients don’t dress like me - I help them dress in their own authentic way!

What are in your eyes the best trends at the moment?

Well, I love all these feathers at the moment!  I am also excited that people are shifting away from the lazy pandemic dressing.  The shift towards more sustainability is great too!

What are in your eyes the worst trends at the moment?

The worst trend is conforming to trends that don’t align with who you are. Personally, I think some of these designer tennis shoes look a quack-a-ma-doodles, a term coined lol… meaning, a bit too quacky!?

What kind of fashion advice would you give us?

Be true to yourself - don’t worry about what others are wearing or tell you to wear. Many women get fashion advice that doesn’t actually serve them - like store associates or subscription box companies with their own agenda, or family and friends who give well-meaning but irrelevant advice.

If styling is not naturally your strength, no shame in getting professional help with it!

Who is your style icon and why?

Queen Rania of Jordan - she is so poised and always a style icon.
Also, love Heart Evangelista, she has really great creativity mixed with luxury.

Is there something else you would like to share with us?

Your closet reflects your psyche - so if it’s cramped, filled with stuff you no longer love - know that you can make a change and it’ll ripple throughout other areas of your life too!

Thank you so much, Jennifer, for answering my questions. I love you sent me those before-after pictures of your clients. This way we can see how much they changed. 😍

Hope you like my blog.....Until next time.....Have a nice day

  2. Leuk interview en gaaf om de before en afters te zien. Zelf ben ik niet zo'n fan van fashion stylisten, ik kies liever m'n eigen kleding uit.
