Hi There..... Do you think healthy skin is important? Have you ever tried a collagen supplement?

Healthy skin is very important to me, especially now that I am getting somewhat older. Oh my, I don't even like to write about the fact that I am over 50. Although, there are some things you get for free once you reach that age, and I am not referring to the collagen supplement they gave me. 😎

I am telling you the truth, and the older you get, the more of the free stuff you get. Mmm, you are probably wondering what on earth I am talking about? Wrinkles, of course, and the more you smile or frown, the more you get. 😏

My opinion on the CHV Collagen Smart Film

It is so easy to use. I remember doing a review a long time ago about a powder supplement. Oh my, I just hated it. Not only did I spill a lot, but you can't believe how bad it tasted. This film tastes great. A little sour but not too much for me, and a hint of mint. 

I struggled a bit at first to get the film in between my teeth and my cheek because it sticks to your fingers if you fidget too much to get it in the right spot. My advice, keep your hands off once you put it in your mouth. 

I've been using the smart film for a month now, and after about 2 weeks I noticed was that my nails didn't break as often as usual. Can you see the difference in the picture below? The picture on the left you can see 2 broken nails, and the other ones reasonably short. The picture on the right is after one month. Not only did they grow longer, but only one broken nail, and that was because it got stuck in a drawer.

Another positive effect I noticed was less hair loss after taking a shower. I can't really prove that with pictures, but I have another picture for you that surprised me too. I took pictures before the treatment and after of my forehead, and below is the result. The one on top is before and the one below is after one month of taking the collagen supplement.

It's not that hard to notice the wrinkles in the picture above, but the question is, can you find them again in the picture on the bottom? I swear I did not photoshop the results. The only disadvantage maybe that there is a price to be payed, but it's better than giving your money away on treatments that don't give any actual results.

How to Solve Trouble Sleeping - That Pillow Thing - Better Sleep for a Better Life

Hi There..... Do you have trouble sleeping? Do you have neck problems?

I have severe neck problems and get treated for headaches that start from the back of my head. About twice a year, I go to the pain center of the hospital to get denervation. 😟

Ah, you may wonder what on earth denervation is. It's a present I get because I have been such a good girl. Wrong, of course, it has nothing to do with gifts. And no, it's not a special box with pills to stop the headaches either. 😂

They place needles on the nerves that 'get on my nerves', and by heating those nerves with an electrical current, they try to stop them from transmitting pain. The first days after the treatment are the best. 😄

Duh, no, of course not, first your body reacts to the invasion from the needles in your head by sending a lot more pain signals. Resulting in even more neck problems and trouble sleeping. Then after a week, it gets better.  😊

At least I am not the only one having trouble sleeping. Gemma Jensen does too. You may not know her, but let's get to know her and 'That Pillow Thing' that she invented. She sent it as a gift to me in exchange for my honest opinion. 😍

About Gemma and That Pillow Thing

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always had trouble sleeping. I would lie in bed for hours at night, tossing and turning until eventually nodding off, only to be woken again at random times throughout the night. When the alarm went off in the morning, I would feel absolutely exhausted and didn’t know how I would get through the day.

I had a suspicion my pillow was the culprit, but couldn’t work out what was wrong. I’d spent a fortune on pillows over the years searching for the ‘perfect one’, but none of them quite hit the mark.

I found that if I had the right support for my neck, there would be too much padding for my head. But if I had the right amount of padding for my head, there wouldn’t be enough support for my neck…

The Dream

Then, after one particularly restless night, I had a really bizarre dream where a row of marshmallows was biting the edge of my pillow (crazy I know, but it was a dream).

Still in that dream, I lay down so my head rested on the pillow and the marshmallows were positioned underneath my neck. Strangely enough, I dreamt it felt really comfortable.

In the morning, while reflecting on this surreal dream (and wondering whether it had been triggered by my sweet tooth), a Eureka moment suddenly hit me – that’s exactly what my pillow needs! Obviously not a row of marshmallows, but something that would encase the edge of my pillow and provide an extra layer of support directed at just my neck area.

I then spent the following months making hundreds of prototypes. I bought numerous memory foam pillows and used an electric carving knife to hollow out an arc shape at the pillow’s edges (don’t try this at home!).

How That Pillow Thing came to be

I experimented with different foam densities until I found one that was both soft and supportive – and felt just like a marshmallow.

Finally, I came up with the product as it is today. Since nothing like it existed before, we didn’t know what to call it. We’d always referred to it as ‘That Pillow Thing’ and so the name eventually stuck.

The Result

When I first started using That Pillow Thing™ I noticed an immediate improvement. It instantly made my pillow much more comfortable, which helped me fall asleep quicker. I also seemed to sleep deeper and for longer too. I think this was because my body wasn’t constantly waking me up throughout the night to adjust incorrect or uncomfortable neck positions.

I now wake up feeling rested and like I have had a proper night’s sleep.

My opinion on That Pillow Thing

It feels very soft and is extremely comfortable when trying to read a book, resting your head on the pillow encased with That Pillow Thing. Although, I struggled somewhat to get my pillow in the right position to support my neck. 😵

I also slept a few nights with it. That Pillow Thing didn't solve all my problems, because I still have trouble sleeping and wake up a few times a night, but at least this time it wasn't because of neck problems. 😃

Often I also wake up during the night due to shoulder pain, and it seems That Pillow Thing solved that problem too. 😍

The thing I did notice is that after waking up, I fell asleep again pretty fast. 😀

My opinion on the Evening Dress

I just love it. It fits perfectly, and the color is exactly as I expected. No need to run around braless, because you can easily wear it underneath, which makes me so much more comfortable in a dress. The deep V-neck in the back still gives it some sexiness. The voile makes this dress extra romantic. Ah, I can't help it. I am a romantic soul. 😍

My opinion on the Scrub Facial Cleansing Bar

It's always great when brands adapt their products to embrace our environment and take care of our precious earth. Nivea eliminated the plastic in their packaging, which I think is wonderful. What surprised me the most about this face soap bar is that it didn't feel like a scrub. Using warm water with this soap made me feel as if I was in a wellness center. Ok, maybe that's a little exaggerated, but it came really close. 😊

Another plus is that there is no unpleasant scent to this face soap. I would even say it was hard to pick up any scent. The soap is easy to handle and doesn't slip between my fingers. I once tried a soap from another brand, and it was so slippery that I had to get out of the shower in search of it. 😂

My opinion on the Soothing Facial Cleansing Bar

I have very sensitive skin with rosacea, so I have to be careful which products to use for my face. This face soap poses no problems for me. There are no signs of redness or tightness when using it. 😃 

Another plus, this face soap gives me a nice refreshed feeling. At times it seems as if my brain is still in sleep modus, but using this soap feels like my wake-up call.  It is also scent-free, which is perfect. My recommendation for these face soaps would be to buy yourself a soap dish to keep it dry. 😎

My opinion on the Refreshing Facial Cleansing Bar

This is also a great soap that gives you a lovely refreshed feeling, but it is not my favorite. People who don't have skin problems would probably love it. 😊

It's not a huge problem, though, because this soap is also very soft, but after using it my skin feels slightly tight. When I applied my day cream afterward, the feeling of tightness vanished into thin air. 😉

On the plus, I couldn't pick up a scent on this face soap, so that's great. All 3 face soaps made my face feel soft and clean. I am definitely using the first and second to take care of my skin, and I am certain I am going to find a willing victim for the third one. 😀

I am always looking for ways to get my Pinterest pins seen more. The more people get to see my pins, the more potential followers for my blog. You can't blame a girl for wanting to be famous. 😏

Can I tell you a secret? As a kid, I dreamed of being a famous singer. I doubt my dream will ever come true, but I can still dream of other ways to get famous, can't I? 😉

Oh my, I just spilled my secret to everyone who reads this blog post. Too late to take my words back now, I suppose. I could decide not to post this blog, though. Wouldn't that be a crazy idea? I wonder which is the most crazy, me or the thought of not publishing a perfectly fine blog post? 😄

Nah, I wouldn't want to deprive you of my secrets. Where is the fun in that? While I am at it, I might as well share some of my Pinterest secrets so that you can also maximize your Pinterest pin exposure. What are Pinterest group boards?

Pinterest group boards are boards where multiple participants share their Pinterest pins. These Pinterest boards give you the opportunity to reach a wider range of people. 

How to find Pinterest group boards?

If you're new to Pinterest, it's hard to know where to find such a group board. However, they aren't that difficult to find. You just have to know how.

Finding Pinterest group boards by using search

Go to your home screen on Pinterest and click on the search bar by clicking on the search icon (magnifier glass)

Then type group boards in the search bar and press enter. Next to the box where you have typed 'group boards' you now choose the option boards instead of all pins.

Now you get to see all kinds of group boards that have incorporated the phrase 'group boards' in their description. You can see the amount of pins and how many sections the Pinterest boards have. Just click on a Pinterest board of your choice to see how many followers and collaborators it has. 

You will also find a description of who the Pinterest board is for, and what you have to do in order to join. There may be a request to join button, or the board owner will have another option written in the description. 

Most board owners will require that you follow them. Some will want you to pin someone else's pin after or before you leave your pins.

Go to https://pingroupie.com/ and register or log in if you are registered already.

Interview with Fashion Stylist Janet Igah

Hi There..... Would you like to learn more about what goes on behind the screens of the fashion industry? How about a new fashion stylist interview?

I have had a lot of positive reactions from you, saying you love those deep dives into the fashion industry. But it pains me to say that this is going to be the last interview I am sharing. 😢

Did you really believe that? Of course not, but I will have to launch a new search for fashion stylists, because I am almost out. I still have a few up my sleeve, so there is no need to worry. 😉

Time to see what Janet Igah (pronounced ee-gah) answered to my interview questions. Most people call her Jane, and she is self-employed as a Fashion + Interiors Stylist and the Editor-in-Chief of The Doe Online.

How old are you?

Getting up there, I am currently 33 years old.

What kind of work do you do, or what are you studying to be? 

I mainly am called upon to style for e-commerce and editorial, but also have a handful of personal styling clients. I am what you’d call a fluid learner, always learning. The more I know, the more I need to know. 

These days, I am really focused and passionate about my work in PR (public relations). Specifically, media relations and internal communications. It’s not quite styling but is a great vertical that keeps me on my toes.

What made you decide to become a Fashion Stylist?

Many moons ago, I had a really intense romantic relationship. The person I was involved with was very into fashion. I only knew that I wanted to be a designer. I didn’t know too much about that world. He did, so that really intrigued me. We’d talk for hours on end of people, places, and new things in the fashion industry that were happening. 

I think I really fell in love with fashion, while he was falling in love with me. Lol. At some point, he encouraged me to become a fashion stylist because of my innate sense of style, or as perceived by him. Anyway, the rest was history.

Is fashion important to you? Why? 

Fashion is important to me, but not as important as style. I think that has been my reference point my entire life. While I love brands, and swoon over European-driven style, I really pay attention to the details of a look. The accessories, the way it’s all put together, and of course the personal aura of a person in anything. Personal aura has a lot to do with style, which, in turn, influences fashion. It’s a weird but eloquent cycle. They need each other to thrive.

What are your successes and how did you achieve them?

Successes, Lol. I try not to think of them often so I don’t get stuck on them. I would say as of late, I have had to reflect on them, especially through the Pandemic, because it was hard to stay motivated. So, something I am extremely proud of was launching my fashion showroom for independent brands in the Flatiron District of New York City and starting a fashion journal simultaneously. 

It’s definitely a lot of work, a lot of inner contemplation and prayer. I must, however, emphasize that I have learned so much from watching other people in my field who have successful business models and killer work ethics; people who I have been privileged to either work under or call friends. I learn a lot by observation. I then internalize it, make it my own, and then build a dream around it. One that I can call my own. 

Then I build the foundations of the dream by researching what I’ll need to get started. This part is usually in a repetitive cycle, but with anything I have brought to fruition, it started with me seeing it repeatedly, getting it down in my spirit.

Is the name of the Brand important to you when you buy clothing?

Yes, and no. I am not really into fast fashion. 2019 was probably the last time I stepped foot into a major fast-fashion retailer. So essentially quality, sustainability, and legacy matter to me when shopping. I love to thrift because a lot of the pieces I love come with a rich heritage or are from an era that is nostalgic for me, like 90s hip hop or 70s fashion in old Italian movies.

Describe your personal style of clothing?

I love to be comfortable with anything I wear, no matter where I’m going. My go-to's are a pullover hoodie, preferably in a neutral color, leggings or free-flowing pants, and some sneakers, preferably Nikes. I mix various styles to achieve my mood for the day, but I have a pretty core wardrobe of oversized graphic tees, hoodies, denim jackets, blazers, destroyed denim pants, and sneakers. 

I also wear the same jewelry pieces from day to day, so I try to buy pieces that last, in terms of wear. I really love yellow gold, vermeil, or beaded things. Anything with texture, like mohair or snakeskin, really has my heart.

How did you find your personal style? Do you have a signature look? 

Through trial and error. You never really land on a fixed personal style, if you ask me. It’s likely going to be fluid throughout various life changes and moods. One year, I remember having a huge fixation with knee-high flat boots. That phase didn’t last too long, as I rebuilt my sneaker collection.

I am highly inspired by music (hip hop, R&B, and Rock), Black culture, and West African fashion. These things have found their way into my personal style, as well as my work overtime. I am a Nigerian who was born and raised in New York City, so I feel there has always been a disconnect between me and my true roots. My fashion choices over the last few years have been my advance towards reconnecting with them.

In what way do you influence other people’s clothing style?

I am always talking about the way we consume fashion and how everyone looks the same these days. People I am close to either already feel the same way or have adjusted their shopping habits to reflect a more sustainable lifestyle after a few conversations. I try to show clients and friends a new perspective when building their own wardrobe. Conversation is key in driving home key style principles and challenging the industry at large.

What are in your eyes the best trends at the moment?

Trends are a little fickle, but if I had to name a superb one; it’d be the “Above the keyboard dress” look. This became popular during the Pandemic (the Zoom era). That’s where everything from the waist up looks really put together, and from the waist down, everything is super chill, and sometimes even out of pocket from what’s being worn above. That’s a trend I can subscribe to.

What are in your eyes the worst trends at the moment?

Leggings as clothes, lol. But I don’t care, I am sticking beside ‘em!

What kind of fashion advice would you give us?

I say: Be you! People are always going to have an opinion about how you should dress and what you should look like, and by the way, it resets every 2 - 3 years. However, comfort breeds confidence; so if you’re not comfortable with a trendy look, you won’t look trendy in it. I’ll also say: Clothes are your language before anyone even hears a word from you, so make sure you’re saying something special, something you’d want to say.

Who is your style icon and why?

I really love singer-songwriter and chef Kelis. To this day, no one is touching her in my eyes. She has just always done what she wanted and set a lot of trends in motion that we still love.
